M1 is an investing service which offers a “robo-advisory” investment plan. What this essentially means is that you configure your account with your financial goals and load money into your account and all the investing is done for you automatically.
I like it over traditional robo-advisory services because most of the other options take the control over your hands. (which can be good for some). i also like it better over things like fidelity and vanguard because it makes things less complicated. because of this, I believe M1 provides the right balance of control and automation.
with m1, you get access to normal brokerage account, roth ira account, high yield savings account, probably some other shit
investments are in “pies”, which can represent either group of stocks or stocks themselves.

here is an example of my 2060 aggressive roth ira.
based on some nerd, each pie is made up of “slices” which are distributed based on some investment strategy. a feature i like about this is when you start investing, the stocks that the algorithm picks will be “aggressive” and more risky. but as you get closer to your retirement date (2060 in my case), the algorithm will start becoming more conservative.
